NCBI Supports Businesses in Art Deco Festival

By   Arlene Crispin   -  February 13 / 2024

Napier City Business Inc (NCBI) is pleased to announce its latest lineup of events aimed at encouraging CBD business participation and engagement alongside the upcoming Art Deco Festival, being held 15-18 February 2024.

Seven years ago, NCBI launched a series of events to rally support from Napier City retailers and businesses for the community and the Art Deco Festival.

NCBI General Manager, Pip Thompson says it’s fantastic to see the return of Art Deco and events that our business community can get behind, adding to the vibrant Art Deco atmosphere in Napier. “After enduring multiple cancellations due to Covid and Cyclone Gabrielle, this year’s festival marks a long-awaited comeback after four years.”

Events in general are a big deal for our local economy. Whether it’s Art Deco, a music festival, or a sporting tournament – they attract visitors near and far, injecting revenue into local businesses such as restaurants, bars, shops, hotels, and other tourism-related activities. This revenue contributes to the local economy, supports businesses, and creates job opportunities for locals.

NCBI is dedicated to supporting and promoting local businesses in Napier City. Through various initiatives and events, NCBI strives to enhance the economic vitality and vibrancy of the city.

Part of NCBI’s support for the Napier CBD also includes sponsoring the gold, silver and bronze award winners for the Art Deco Window Display Competition and Best Dressed Team. This year’s NCBI events include:

Art Deco Fashion Walking Tour

Supports retailers by showcasing stores that offer Art Deco inspired products, including apparel and accessories. Led by an expert guide, this tour offers a meticulously curated experience, allowing Art Deco enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the era and shop from a selection of participating stores. Full list of participating retailers can be found here

Art Deco Window Display Competition: 13-19 February

With a record number of entries this year, 26 in total – the Art Deco Window Display competition challenges businesses to showcase their creativity by decorating their windows in the iconic art deco style. We invite locals and visitors to take a stroll through the CBD and admire the window displays that will transport you back to the glamour of the 1930s. A map of participating venues is available here

Judged by Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise, Art Deco Trust Chair Jeremy Smith, NCBI Chair Lizzie Russell and NCBI General Manager Pip Thompson,  this competition brings historic charm to the city streets.

Art Deco Best Dressed Team

Launched to help accommodate non-retail businesses, the Art Deco Best Dressed Team competition provides an opportunity for all businesses to engage in the festival’s festivities. Teams are invited to submit photos showcasing their finest art deco attire for a chance to win recognition and prizes.

Art Deco Soiree

To wrap up the celebrations, NCBI will host its first ‘Business After 5’ event of the year for its members at the Provincial Art Deco Bar. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their finest art deco attire, alongside their team members. The winners of the competitions will be announced and presented with awards during the event, adding a touch of glam to the evening.
