Last Friday, Napier City Business Inc, Napier City Council, and Napier Port came together to host the highly anticipated inaugural Innovate Napier breakfast series. The first of a winter breakfast series to motivate and energise you for your future in business.
The event, held at the Napier War Memorial Conference Centre, witnessed a sold-out crowd of 160 attendees gathered on the scenic Marine Parade. This remarkable turnout marked a significant milestone for the Conference Centre as well as the Hawke’s Bay Community, with many appreciating the chance to come together since the cyclone.
Guest speaker Vaughn Davis, founder of The Goat Farm, delivered a 45-minute presentation titled “Big Ideas for Business – Downturns are for other people.” Vaughn’s expertise in business strategies and his engaging speaking style made for an empowering and thought-provoking session. Attendees were treated to insightful ideas and anecdotes that left a lasting impression.
Napier City Business Inc General Manager Pip Thompson says one of her personal favourite take-outs was the often-overlooked value of hard work and dedication, using the fishing industry as a great example. “We all say how expensive fish is, right? $39 a kilo is so pricey. The image was a fishing boat on extremely high seas, and his take and quite rightly so, is that these guys risk their lives every day to bring home the fish for us to enjoy at our table, so $39 a kilo is a small price to pay for the hard mahi these guys do daily!”
With a bit of time up his sleeve before flying back to Tāmaki Makaurau, Vaughn generously offered the audience a chance to chat further after the session. As a result, Vaughn’s last day in Napier was fully booked out by locals wanting to know and learn more.
Next up to get you out of bed early is recruitment expert and Executive Director of Build People, Jeremy Wilson discussing the pressing issue of recruitment in New Zealand. His views and opinions, delivered in a frank and informative way, are formed on the belief that the majority of businesses have over-complicated a simple process and dehumanised the most communication-centric business function. If your recruitment is lacking, or you are suffering from a “talent shortage” then you will undoubtedly find Jeremy both interesting, amusing, and thought-changing.
The Innovate Napier breakfast series is designed to ignite inspiration and empower business owners, managers and teams.
