Handmade in the Bay is the brainchild of Maree Cooper, an indoor market for creative crafters in Hawke’s Bay. When Maree moved back to Napier from Tauranga, she decided to open the Emerson Street collective. Initially there were around 5 contributing artists and crafters supplying the goods, now Maree boasts 50 extremely creative individuals who supply a vast variety of treasures, gift ideas and items which leave you in awe of their uniqueness. You will find something for everyone, even yourself, as well as enjoying a relaxed and inviting environment to spend time in while you peruse the fantastic selection.
One of these very talented people is Denise Millar! The list of things that Denise doesn’t do is shorter than what she can and does do!
Denise is a furniture maker, and this is evident in some of the stunning creations that you will find in-store – though you will have to be fast to secure them as they sell so quickly!
Her other contributions to the store include upholstery, sewing, macrame and resin work.
Denise’s Mother was a seamstress and started her career at Liberty of London, learning fine hand sewing skills as well as machine skills, and Denise’s Dad is a jack of all trades, so creating is definitely in this family’s blood. Her husband even helps out with a bit of unpicking, when things don’t quite go to plan.
With Christmas not too far away, why not pop in and see what is on offer at Handmade in the Bay, there really is something for everyone!
