Napier CBD Cardboard Recycling Collection Trial
Dear Retailer
Following feedback from CBD retailers, Council’s Environmental Solutions Team have been working through ways to fund and co-ordinate a trial to meet retailers’ cardboard recycling needs. Council is pleased to announce that from Wednesday 07 September 2022, a fully funded ‘CBD Cardboard Recycling Collection Trial’ will be provided to your business.
The purpose of this fully funded trial is to:
- reduce the amount of cardboard from retailers being sent to landfill;
- measure the cardboard volumes produced by smaller to medium businesses/retailers within the Napier CBD;
- provide a solution to financially assist retailers to have an environmentally sound cardboard and paper solution. Data collected will enable Council to investigate the possibility of introducing a subsidised targeted rate for future collections once the trial is complete. It will also enable Council to extend this service to other business areas within Napier. Larger businesses will continue using their private subscriptions for cardboard collection. This trial will run for 12 months and will finish on Wednesday 30 August 2023. Retailers and businesses are responsible for removing all staples and non-paper/cardboard items from cardboard recycling before placing at kerbside, for health and safety reasons.
- Collections are twice per week on Wednesdays and Fridays (5am – 9am)
- Please ensure your cardboard recycling is placed at kerbside the evening prior to allow for collection at 5am on Wednesdays and Fridays
- All staples must be removed
- Cardboard must be bundled, tied with string and placed at kerbside (adjacent to the left hand side of the road in front of your premise) Please feel free to contact our Customer Services Office (06 835 7579) if you have any questions or queries.
