“Like most events in 2020, the Napier CBD Snow Slope was cancelled due to Covid-19 levels. The event attracted much community and social media interest, so we have decided to bring back the ‘Snow Slope to our CBD this year, “says Pip Thompson, General Manager of Napier City Business Inc.
Together with the Napier City Council and More FM, Napier City Business Inc is bringing snow and ice into the CBD for a free fun family community event.
You will see the top of Emerson Street closed and transformed into a natural snow slide
( 20mx10m)! Up to three truckloads of ice from local company Hawkes Bay Ice will be spread on the top of Emerson Street on Saturday, 10 and Sunday 11 July. Don’t forget your woolies and get prepared to get wet!
It will be a staggered entry in the barrier area, with no more than 10 people on the slope at any one time to play. Snow sliders will slide on provided recycled plastic mats, or make snow angels! Open from 10 am-4 pm daily (*weather permitting – backup dates 24,25 July).
Finish your day by visiting a local cafe or bar to warm up!
We are delighted local businesses have also got behind this unique event, donating spot prizes to give away throughout the weekend. Lone Star, Starbucks, More FM, and Back Door all donating prizes, along with Mt Ruapehu offering a family ski pass with equipment hire included.
Watch this space for more info in the coming weeks.
