Katie Brigid is the creative force behind The Knit Nook – a colourful hub for creativity, connection, and all things yarn. Originally from Canada, she moved here with her family and quickly saw a gap (and a golden opportunity) to bring something crafty and cosy to Napier.
EAT
Cuteneys Cakes has the absolute bestttt cheesecakes in town – and oh my gosh their cabinet is packed with seriously tempting goodies. Alternately, it’s got to be Stuffed Donuts!
DRINK
When it’s coffee o’clock, I usually head straight to The Artisan Café around the corner – friendly service and yummy drinks. If I’ve got a bit more time, I love sitting at Roam on Marine Parade, facing the water with a great coffee and my knitting.
SHOP
When I’m looking for a special gift, I love going to Raku Japanese Designed on Lower Emerson Street – they always have something unique and beautiful. Another favourite is Wardini Books, especially for the kids and teens in my life who are book lovers.
PLAY/SEE/DO
Napier has an amazing collection of murals around the city – they’re absolutely worth doing a walking tour of, especially with kids who love hunting them out. We also love walking down Marine Parade and soaking up the sun together. Another favourite is the Ahuriri beachfront/walkway – perfect for family time, plus there’s coffee or ice cream nearby.
WHY I CALL NAPIER HOME
Our family moved here from Canada to be closer to my Kiwi husband’s family, who live locally. I saw a real opportunity to bring something creative and community-minded to the local craft scene – and that’s how The Knit Nook was born.
