So much to do in Napier on a Rainy day.

Not that it ever rains in Hawke’s Bay, but if it did – there’s no shortage of things to do and fun to be had.

Who doesn’t love being inside with a coffee and a scone when its raining cats and dogs?

Napier has some very comfy cafes including Tennyson Cafe, Salt Cafe and Bay Coffee Hub where you will find delicious home baking, heart-warming soup and steaming coffee.

Take a tour of Napier Prison at the foot of Bluff Hill.  Built in 1862, it’s New Zealand’s oldest prison.

Tours are available where you’ll learn about the prisons most famous inmates, walk through the Hanging Yard and you may even see a ghost believed to have occupied the complex for well over a century.  For the more adventurous, night tours are also available.

There’s nothing like a dose of retail therapy to fix the rainy day blues.

From large department stores like Farmers to independent retailers like The Department of Curiosities, there’s shopping galore in the city, all within walking distance.

Curl up with a good book or magazine in the Napier Library, now located in its temporary home inside the rear of the MTG Building on Herschell Street.

If the children in your party are getting cabin fever, Time Zone in Emerson Street is the ideal place for an afternoon of game playing!  Enigma Escape Room at Archies Backpackers will give the family a few hours of mystery fun! Perfect for children and adults alike.

No list would be complete without some more of our favourite Napier haunts, perfect for an ‘inside day’:
