Big Queues, Bigger Impact: Zambrero Napier Serves Up Generosity
Zambrero Napier served 300 free burritos yesterday while celebrating a global milestone of 100 million meals donated worldwide – a very real example of Feel Good Mex in action.
The global celebration included the giveaway of 100,000 free burritos worldwide, helping contribute to an additional 100,000 meals donated through Plate 4 Plate.
The Napier stores activation was promoted through Napier City Business Inc’s social media channels and quickly gained traction, with hundreds of comments and a steady queue stretching out the door from the moment doors opened. All 300 burritos were served within two hours of opening.
Zambrero Napier owner Paras Savaliya said the day was a great opportunity to highlight the purpose behind the brand. “Plate 4 Plate has always been central to Zambrero and the day was about celebrating that alongside our customers.”
In a show of community spirit, Napier City Business Inc General Manager Pip Thompson encouraged customers to pay it forward, inviting those enjoying a free burrito to consider purchasing a burrito voucher to gift to someone else, extending the generosity beyond the giveaway itself.
Every time a customer purchases a regular or big burrito or bowl, a Kids Zam Box, or a retail item at Zambrero, a meal is donated to someone in need around the world through the Plate 4 Plate initiative.
Founded in 2005 by Dr Sam Prince, Zambrero has donated more than 100 million meals worldwide through partnerships with Rise Against Hunger, Love Mercy and Foodbank, using food as a vehicle to help tackle global hunger.
The Napier CBD activation demonstrated how global initiatives can translate into local impact, combining generosity, business support, and community connection.
It was a timely reminder that small actions, taken together can create meaningful change, both close to home and around the world.
