Santa Claus arrives in Napier’s city centre this week, setting up at Candy Cane Lane alongside his elves for free visits and photos from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 December, 10am-2pm. The visits mark Santa’s final stop in Napier before Christmas.
Set inside 250 Emerson Street, Candy Cane Lane is Napier’s newest festive experience, transforming a central CBD space into a walk-through Christmas setting where visitors can meet Santa, take photos and post their Christmas wishes.
Since opening, Candy Cane Lane has drawn a mix of families, couples and city centre workers. The experience has also attracted cruise ship passengers, including visitors from Germany and the United States, amused by the novelty of stepping into a Christmas wonderland while wearing shorts and T-shirts on a 30-degree summer day.
The letter-to-Santa station has already produced some memorable requests, including one child hoping for a John Deere tractor complete with a front scoop.
A colouring-in competition is also running, giving kids something to do over the holidays, with entries closing 19 January, 2026 and a local prize pack to be won.
Entry is free, with an option to make a donation to Bellyful Hawke’s Bay during Santa’s visits to support local families in need. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own phone or camera.
A limited number of sensory-friendly Santa sessions are also available by booking, providing a quieter experience for children who need a calmer environment.
