After proving a runaway success last year, Street Soup is back to serve up hearty, homemade goodness in the heart of Napier.
Launched in 2024 as a simple way to bring people together through the colder months, Street Soup quickly became a local favourite. Each week, crowds gathered to sample delicious soups from some of Napier’s favourite eateries. Feedback poured in from locals and businesses alike, all asking the same question: “When is Street Soup coming back?”
The wait is over.
Street Soup 2025 kicks off this week, running every Wednesday from 12–2pm on the corner of Emerson and Market Streets throughout July and August. For just $10, soup lovers can enjoy a cup of soup and carb combo, with two new flavours on offer each week. It’s the ideal excuse to step out of the office or the house and enjoy a comforting lunch without going far – perfect for busy locals looking for a quick, affordable, and warming meal.
The rotating menu will share both familiar favourites and new creations from local kitchens.
Returning favourites include mussel chowder, split pea and ham hock, creamy mushroom, and pumpkin. This year also introduces an array of new options, such as coconut prawn and chicken laksa, broccoli, blue cheese & bacon, tomato and a fragrant Tom Kha.
There’s also a classic French onion soup making its debut from Vinci’s Pizza, who’ve created it especially for Street Soup.
“Street Soup is designed to give people a reason to get out of the house or office, support local businesses, and feel connected,” says NCBI General Manager Pip Thompson. “Last year, we had so much positive feedback from locals who said it brightened their week. It’s simple, affordable, and creates a real buzz in the CBD.”
The initiative also provides a welcome boost for participating restaurants and cafes, who benefit from mid-week foot traffic during the quieter winter months.
