To celebrate our very first Matariki public holiday, Napier CBD will be open for shopping, dining, and playing in support of Matariki activities. The weather forecast for Friday is set to be cool, crisp, and clear, so what better way to enjoy a family day celebrating togetherness than in Napier City. Shop hours will vary depending on individual owners.
Napier City Business Inc General Manager Pip Thompson says, “Matariki is a time of reflection, sharing time and feasting with family and friends, and planning for the year ahead.
There is no escaping the fact that Hawke’s Bay is a fast-growing popular tourist destination, and with Matariki falling on a Friday, it is expected Napier CBD will be inundated with locals and visitors all looking for something to do for the long weekend.
A number of activities are happening in the CBD starting on Wednesday and will continue throughout the week, including the Ngā Whetū o Matariki Light Show, Herschell Street, CBD, Wednesday 22 June – Saturday 25 June, 6 pm-8 pm. Matariki at the Aquarium Friday 24 June – Sunday 26 June.
Hands Down and Hapi have teamed up and are hosting a Taco Matariki Collaboration Party on Saturday, 25 June, from 3 pm to late. Located in the Hands Down carpark behind Vinci’s. Gretta and the Hapī crew will be serving a range of delicious tacos using Hands Down tortillas, including boil up with puha and kumara and BBQ chicken with hangi salted riwai and pokena.
As this weekend is shaping up with nice weather, albeit cool, Napier CBD will no doubt be a bustling hive of activity, whether it be shopping, relaxing with a coffee, or playing a game of Par2 mini-golf – so rug up and get yourselves out and about and enjoy!
